SEVEN dads conquered The Three Peaks Challenge – scaling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours – to raise £2,500 for Southview Primary School in Crowland.

With their manager Steve Callaghan, dads Mark Harriss, Mike McKenna, Chris Edwards, Dave Brown, Rob Hendy, Simon Nickels and Richard Marseglia met at the school on Thursday morning to get a rousing send off from pupils.

They set off for Scotland, staying overnight, before tackling Ben Nevis.

IT consultant Simon Nickels said it was mostly walking rather than traditional mountaineering but there was a bit of climbing involved as they scrambled over rocks to the summit.

The whole trip went smoothly – apart from during the final descent.

Simon said: “Some of us wanted to take an easier route and ended up on the wrong side of the mountain. We had to get a bus back.”

The cash raised will buy equipment for the school’s foundation stage and help towards playground improvements.
