Crooner dedicates song to 100th birthday girl

Matt Monro fan Elspeth Harland celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday with a big party at the Nutten Stoven Residential Home in Holbeach, where she has lived for the past four years.

Singer Karl Richardson entertained, dedicating his rendition of Born Free to the birthday girl.

There was a family get together in the afternoon and the party was held at night.

Home manager Carolyn Stanway: “The party was a huge success and Elspeth had a fabulous time.”

Born in County Durham, Elspeth spent most of her life in Wallsend on Tyne before moving to Tydd St Mary 18 years ago.

She has five children, ten grandchildren and 14 grandchildren.

Elspeth was employed in a rope works during her early years and later ran a cake shop.

She attributes her long life to “hard work”.
