Police in Spalding are advising shed owners in the town to step security after recent reports of burglaries.

In particular, people should consider setting timer lights in their sheds when away from home and marking electrical items with their post code and house number by using a UV pen.

Police are also warning householders to be alert to scam phone calls where someone claims to be from the police, bank or other public organisations and not to give out personal details.

You should also make use of your telephone’s caller display to check any number before answering, with the option of picking up the phone at all if the number is unfamiliar.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The police will never call you and asking for personal details, neither will your bank, so please bear in mind that when you are answering any calls, the person on the other end of the line could be anybody.
