A MAN who stole a bottle of flavoured schnapps from the One Stop in Holbeach was arrested while walking home after his car ran out of petrol.
Keith Wisdom (18), of Station Road, Twenty, stole the £7.39 bottle of Cactus Jack’s Apple Sour at 9.30pm on Sunday, August 26.
The store’s manager challenged him, asking if he was going to pay, but he ran off.
Prosecutor Edward Johnson told Spalding magistrates the manager started to follow Wisdom, decided that was “inappropriate”, and called police.
Officers viewed the shop’s CCTV and spotted Wisdom a short time later.
Solicitor Rachel Stevens, mitigating, said Wisdom was out of work at the time, drove to Holbeach to meet friends, had no money and stole the drink.
She said: “He was walking back in the Spalding direction from Holbeach when police saw him, his intention being to walk home.”
He has since found work as a door-to-door canvasser.
Wisdom was conditionally discharged for six months when he pleaded guilty to theft on Thursday at Spalding Magistrates’ Court.
He must pay £85 prosecution costs and £7.39 compensation to One Stop.
