Spalding United officials are reeling from the third attack on their club in 15 days which has seen gates smashed and the social club vandalised and looted twice.
Tulips chairman Andy Gay revealed today (Monday) he’s thinking of stepping down after being called to the club in the early hours of this morning to see the wreckage left behind by crooks. There was a similar scene there only on Wednesday.
He said: “Like the first time, they have gone in and smashed the fruit machine up and taken whatever there was inside, which is about £300-£400. “They took another five or six bottles of spirits, cases of Coke, cases of J20, anything the little blighters could get their hands on. They have even managed to turn the (CCTV) cameras off without being seen so they are not idiots.”
Volunteers spent the summer rebuilding the clubhouse to smarten it up and the team is currently second in the league so the attacks are a real kick in the teeth as the Tulips raise their game on and off the pitch.
Windows were smashed to gain access both times and club bosses say the thieves must have been equipped because the windows are made of toughened glass. Wooden gates to the field were smashed on October 7 and have been replaced by iron ones.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area of the club between 8pm last night and 3am today to call them on 101.
