Smash and grab raiders are believed to have fled with cigarettes worth more than £4,000 following an early morning attack on the One Stop shop in Holbeach.

It’s understood a black bin was used to smash glass in the entrance door at the West End store at about 2.50am on Tuesday.

A security shutter behind the counter was forced and packets of cigarettes were loaded into black bins before the raiders made their getaway.

Lincolnshire Police are linking the break-in to similar raids the same night on Tesco at Grantham and on an unnamed retailer in Leicestershire.

Police say a silver Mercedes was used in the Holbeach incident and have appealed for witnesses to call them on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Police forensic experts were on the scene in West End for some hours on Tuesday.

The Holbeach store was targeted in a similar raid about 18 months ago.

Staff at the shop have not commented on the break-in, but a national spokesman for One Stop said: “We are aware of the incident at the Holbeach store and are helping police with their enquiries.”

• The store re-opened for normal business on Tuesday.
