Lincolnshire Police has issued a warning to users of dating sites after an unidentified woman from the county fell for a scam after meeting a man online.

The woman was contacted by a man through various dating websites, including Fabswingers and Plentyoffish, before meeting up with him in person some time between January and September last year.

Later, the woman reported that an as yet unknown item had been stolen from her and police are linking the case with reports of similar scams in Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “An investigation into each of these incidents is ongoing, but we would like to remind anyone using these dating sites that a small minority of people using them may not be who they claim to be.

“Users should never give personal financial details to anyone or send cash to them.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting 1500094126.
