POLICE are disappointed that a pensioner caught with the most serious type of child pornography images on his computer has escaped a jail term.

However, they warned that the impact on the life of Anthony Ernest Maris should serve as a warning to others.

The 65-year-old, of Hospital Drove, Little Sutton, Long Sutton, appeared before at Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing indecent images of children.

Maris was handed a 36-month Community Supervision Order. He must also attend an accredited treatment programme for Internet Sex Offenders.

He was banned from working with children and will be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years. He was ordered to pay £425 costs and his computer equipment was forfeited.

Judge James Sampson told Maris: “Your conduct exploits vulnerable children.

“It is disgraceful, disgusting and shameful.”

Speaking after the hearing, DC Claire Hammond, of the Lincolnshire Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team, said: “We are slightly disappointed that the sentence was not a custodial one.

“Maris had hundreds of indecent images of children, some of which were in the most serious category.

“The offences committed by Maris have impacted on every aspect of his life and have been a great source of embarassment and upset to his family and friends.

“Paedophiles involved in similar offences or considering such actions should take note!”
