A fresh warning has been given out by traders in Spalding about a man they claim is going into shops and asking people for cash.

Several incidents have been reported to police by traders in The Crescent, including some last Thursday where women were stopped by a man asking for money.

The situation has alarmed members of The Crescent Traders Association who are advising people approached by the man to report it to the police.

A spokeswoman for the association said: “A man is approaching shops and individuals in The Crescent asking for money and the police have been informed.

“These incidents are happening in the daylight at the moment, but they are still unnerving and frightening to experience if you are on your own. “With the dark nights approaching, we must be vigilant and aware so please report this person to the police if you have any dealings with him.”

Alarms were raised after a trader was confronted by a man while walking towards in Francis Street car park just before the bank holiday weekend, The trader said: “I was just taken aback when he asked me for the money and when the police were told, they said he’d been reported to them before.”
