Manager rumbled thief

THE manager of WH Smith in Spalding shouted “police” and “shoplifter” when a woman left the store with items of stationery.

Anna Burnett was arrested by a police officer on cycle patrol.

Edward Johnson, prosecuting, said Burnett had a Sainsbury’s carrier bag with stationery inside and a “large quantity” of jewellery from Store 21 when arrested on Saturday, August 11.

Burnett (30), of Marshland Drive, Holbeach, appeared in court on Thursday for sentence on theft of jewellery worth £375.86 from Store 21 and theft of curtains worth £67.97 from the QD store in Holbeach.

She pleaded guilty at a previous hearing – and asked for other theft matters to be taken into consideration.

Magistrates further adjourned the hearing to October 11 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
