POLICE raids on a former hotel in Sutterton have uncovered thousands of cannabis plants.

Officers hit the Waggoner’s Rest Hotel on Station Street on Wednesday evening, where they found a haul of plants believed to have a substantial street value.

Marked police cars were still parked outside the former hotel on Thursday as the evidence was taken away.

A member of the public said he noticed the police were there when he went to work on Wednesday night and they were still there when he returned home later.

He said he stopped and asked the police officer what was happening and was told there were cannabis plants in the building.

He said: “The whole pub was full of it.”

As a result of the raids, two men who were living at the hotel were arrested on suspicion of possession of the plants.

An Van Nguyen (30) and Hung Quoc Tran (21) both appeared before Skegness Magistrates’ Court on Friday, each accused of the possession of 1,425 cannabis plants.

Yesterday they appeared again, when they pleaded guilty. They will be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court at a later date.

The pair, who are believed to be Vietnamese, were remanded in custody.
