Group held after immigration swoop in Pinchbeck

BREAKING NEWS MONDAY 11.40AM: Four men from Syria have been arrested in Spalding on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

The men handed themselves in at Spalding Police Station at about 3pm after they had allegedly entered the UK from France in the back of a lorry.

Police are questioning the men at Boston Police Station before they are handed over to Home Office Immigration Enforcement officials.

THURSDAY 11AM: Eleven people arrested in Pinchbeck on suspicion of entering the UK illegally are from the African country of Eritrea, it has emerged today.

The group, including two under 18-year-olds, were discovered in the back of a lorry in Enterprise Way yesterday.

Nine of the group have been handed over to Home Office Immigration Enforcement officials for their cases to be heard, while the two youths are in the hands of social services.

A Home Office spokesman said: “We work closely with the police to tackle illegal immigration and continue to strengthen the security of our border to stop those who have no right to enter the UK from doing so.”

WEDNESDAY 5PM: Eleven people have been arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally after an operation in Pinchbeck today.

Police were called after noises were heard coming from the back of a lorry parked in Enterprise Way and it later emerged they had been travelling for several days.
The group were treated for the effects of hypothermia before they were taken into custody.
