The peace and tranquility of Moulton was shattered on Tuesday when raiders smashed their way into a village shop and stole about £3,000 worth of cigarettes.
A gang targeted Moulton Post Office in High Street, rifling through its tobacco counter and taking a haul of cigarettes, as shop owner Gary Mound and his family watched on in disbelief on CCTV.
Gary said: “At about 12.20am, a silver Ford Mondeo pulled up, two guys jumped out and sledge-hammered through the glass door.
“Then they came in and went straight to the cigarette counter, carrying with them what looked like two plastic dustbins.
“My son, who was watching from the bedroom window, shouted at them but it didn’t put them off.
“Eventually, the (security) alarm went and that spooked the two guys, who then legged it.
“I was behind a door in the shop when it all occurred and, in all, the break-in took about two minutes 20 seconds.”
The raid in Moulton was similar to break-ins last month at Tesco Express, Spalding, and Costcutter, Donington, where tobacco counters were also targeted.
Gary said: “The gang was totally focused on what they wanted and they made a hell of a mess with the glass which went everywhere.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to our neighbours who called the police, the people who came to our aid, our customers and Weston Post Office, which has gone all out to help us.”
