‘Drink and drive over the New Year celebrations and risk being named and shamed.’

That is the warning to motorists from police after they released details of 50 people charged with drink driving since the start of their 2013 Christmas campaign.

More than 100 drivers were stopped in an hour during the launch of the drink drive campaign at the start of December.

At that time a total of 69 injuries had been caused by drink driving on the county’s roads.

Ins Jim Tyner said: “Police in South Holland will not tolerate those who drink-drive and we are committed to cracking down on those that do. Think of the impact on families who have lost a loved one through drink-driving.

“Naming and shaming has proved popular with the public. If the risk of being publicly shamed has prevented just one person from drink-driving, then it’s worth it.

“In addition, drivers should consider the consequences to themselves and their families: being arrested is just the start. The consequences can include a prison sentence, loss of licence, loss of job and therefore reduced income.”

Among the motorists caught driving over the limit in South Holland are:
