POLICE stopped a car being driven erratically on Spalding’s Winsover Road and found the driver was more than twice the legal drink drive limit, Spalding magistrates heard.

Carl Taylor (24), of St Thomas Court, Long Sutton, was banned from driving for 20 months when he admitted driving with 84 microgrammes of alcohol in breath – the legal limit is 35mcgs.

He was also fined £425 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Magistrates on Thursday gave Taylor the chance to cut five months off the ban by completing a rehabilitation course.

Daniel Paulson, prosecuting, said a police sergeant stopped Taylor at 11pm on August 13.

Taylor told the court he had been to a house party that night and decided to drive a short distance to a friend’s house.

He said: “I just feel it was an incredibly stupid mistake. It was something I have never done before. It was a very short distance that I was driving.”
