A WOMAN who stole a charity collection tin from a newsagent’s in Long Sutton has been ordered to pay almost £270 by a court.
Helen Houghton (40), of Albert Avenue, Gedney, pleaded guilty to the theft charge when she appeared at Spalding Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
The tin was taken from the counter of VM Gedney’s newsagent shop in Market Place on June 12. It had been left there by Sean Gedney, who had been collecting sponsors for a skydive in aid of the Firefighters’ Charity.
Houghton was ordered to pay £104.70 compensation and a £65 fine. She must also pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Gedney said he found the sentence “disappointing”.
