A SPALDING woman looking after a 90-year-old man with dementia dishonestly tried to make a £5,000 gain by an act of fraud, a court heard.

Nicola Lamming (22), of Claudette Avenue, appeared before District Judge Richard Blake at Spalding Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer a charge concerning fraud by abuse of position on March 17.

Lamming pleaded guilty to fraud when, as a carer, she was expected to safeguard – or not to act against – the financial interests of William Evans and dishonestly abused the position intending to make £5,000 for herself.

Prosecutor Rebecca Ritson asked for a committal to Lincoln Crown Court under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which will allow the higher court to examine Lamming’s finances.

Mr Blake told Lamming the judge will be made aware that she pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

He said it was only by more responsible behaviour from others that the matter came to light.

The case is expected to be heard within the next six weeks. Lamming had her unconditional bail extended.
