Knighted top cop to head Rhodes probe

The head of Britain’s third largest police force is to head the investigation into the conduct of suspended Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable Neil Rhodes.

Sir Peter Fahy (54), Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, was appointed investigating officer into a potential conduct matter concerning Mr Rhodes by Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Alan Hardwick, earlier today.

Mr Rhodes has been suspended from duty since February 25 and no details about the allegations concerning him have been given.

In an interview with the Spalding Guardian on Wednesday, Mr Hardwick said he would not act as “judge, jury and executioner” for Mr Rhodes whose conduct will be investigated by a police chief widely respected for his leadership skills and approachable manner.

Sir Peter has led Greater Manchester Police since 2008 after spending six years as Chief Constable of Cheshire Police and was knighted in 2012 for services to policing.

In a statement, Mr Hardwick said: “I am pleased to appoint Sir Peter Fahy to conduct an independent and rigorous investigation and I look forward to receiving his findings in due course.”
