Gran’s Corsa set on fire

A granny who allowed two young men to stay in her camper van had her Vauxhall Corsa taken without consent by one of them and set on fire.

Michael Bailey (20) rode as a passenger in the car, which was taken from Hospital Drove, Little Sutton, on July 1 last year.

But Spalding magistrates heard he got out after it was driven to the nearest Tesco and denied any involvement in it being set alight.

Bailey, of John Bends Way, Parson Drove, pleaded guilty to allowing himself to be carried in a car taken without the owner’s consent when he appeared at Spalding Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

He was conditionally discharged for a year and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Solicitor Rachel Stevens, mitigating, said there was no loss to the lady as a result of Bailey sitting in the car.

“He had no idea that there was any plan to damage the car and he feels very bad that that’s what happened,” Miss Stevens said.
