‘Don’t turn – or I will stab you’

A Spalding teenager has spoken of the terrifying evening he thought he was robbed at knifepoint.

Jakub Danieliewicz (13) was walking with his bicycle past St Mary and St Nicolas Church in Love Lane when the attack happened.

He said: “A man came up behind me and said ‘don’t look round or I will stab you’. He had an English voice and said, ‘just hand over your valuables’.

“I gave him my wallet and my phone. The man ran off but I didn’t see him.

“When I turned round he had thrown the wallet on the ground because there was nothing in it, but he took my phone.”

When he arrived home in Barge Close the police were called and door-to-door enquiries were made in the area.

Jakub, a pupil at Sir John Glede School, is Polish and has lived in Spalding with his mum, Justina, for about seven years.

Justina said: “I didn’t expect something like this to happen in Spalding. I worry about Jakub now when he goes out.”

The ordeal hasn’t stopped Jakub going out.

He said: “I have a new phone now but I keep thinking about what happened. My mum is really worried and calls me all the time to make sure I’m safe.”

Sgt Stuart Hurst said: “Fortunately, incidents like this are very rare in Spalding, so we would ask the public to be vigilant but not worry.

“We hope we can work with the community to bring the culprit to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 218.
