Divers search for suspected murder victim

A search by police divers of the South Forty Foot Drain between East Heckington and Swineshead Bridge is underway in connection with the suspected murder of Nottinghamshire man James Brodie.

Specialist divers will be searching the drain for most of this week.

The Bulwell man is believed to have gone missing shortly after jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery at the Time Centre, in Arnold, Nottingham, in September 2003 – he was 19 at the time and police had wanted to speak to him about the incident.

Last month searches at Maize Farm, in East Heckington, resulted in a number of samples being sent off for further scientific tests.

Dean Betton (32), of Raleigh Street, Radford, has been charged with James Brodie’s murder.

A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old man who were also arrested on suspicion of his murder, remain on bail pending further enquiries.
