4,000 illegal cigarettes are under counter
MORE than 4,000 illegal cigarettes were seized during a raid at a Spalding shop.
Officers from Lincolnshire Police, Trading Standards and customs searched Euro Mini-Market in Station Street (pictured) for illegal items, including fake vodka.
A spokesman for the police licensing team said no illegal alcohol was discovered in the raid last Tuesday but the suspected non-duty paid cigarettes were discovered in a purpose-built cabinet beneath the counter.
They were seized and are now the subject of an investiagtion by HMRC.
He added that the outcome of the investigation could result in a review of the premises’ off-licence.

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 12:45 PMmacbrack04 pathetic comment, i and my family are all from the area right down my family tree so don't give me that tosh !!! and as an englishman, we have every right to defend our castle. and my castle is my town and i am not backing down on this at all. enough is enough on the EU trash which comes over. yes..i am talking about the no skilled, no speaky a word of blinking english types that can offer us nothing apart from to shop lift of us, drink drive, pubic drinking and urinating mostly during the light hours thus causing distress to the majority of locals. we see these wander around the town on a daily basis..if they are stealing they are costing us. so send them back !!! not all are bad as you can see i am trying to point out, but you tell me then what are these types what i am talking about offering us ???????

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 10:32 AMSome of you should be looking at your own families ancestry.....South Holland area has been a magnet for outsiders for work ever since the fens were drained....many in the area who 'assume' the authority of being 'local and or english' are almost certainly not the first and very often not the second....there are huge numbers of people in the area who are of scottishirish ancestry ...many welsh as well....there are people of heugonot descent, german, polish (from the pows after ww2) and many other nationalities....because someone takes up the legal right of abode from eastern europe and 'locals' disagree does that mean the 1-1million brits living in spain should be thrown out....or the oaps retired to franceitalycyprus...????? By all means object to illegal migrants from non euro countries but it has always been the british way to welcome new blood....after all it was the french at hastings, the dutch with william the third and the germans with george the first..... english....most of you have no idea what it means.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 08:00 PMI have to agree that if these guys are selling DUTY FREE Cigs etc ... let them feel the full weight of the law ... however ... these ridiculous comments about BLACKED OUT windows ... they are clearly SECURITY SHUTTERS ... and they are there for a reason ... not to stop some full scale police raid on a drugs Lab ... to stop people breaking in and stealing stock ... sounds fair to me ...I have visites this shop and it's a small convenience store selling many Eastern european brands for the eastern european workers here ... lets not all get carried away with this xenophobic and quite frankly racist drivel .... As for the Cigarettes ? well 4,000 ? not a lot is it ? and who has not brought back an extra bottle of Scotch from Holidays abroad ? or a few extra packs of cigs ? ... BTW the duty om cigs and alcohol in the UK is appallingly high ... maybe if that was addresses there woul not be a market for contraband ... and before the health geniuses attack me for the amount smokers cost the NHS ? SMOKING DUTY AND BOOZE DUTY pay for the NHS ... without it ? it would collapse or at very least trult collapse .....

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:01 AM#8 I know you're frustrated and to many extents I do agree with what you say, maybe not the way you are saying it, I don't know about this latest situation with the cigarettes so will not comment on that, but you are playing right into the hands of those who are causing the damage. You really must drop the march idea, I know you're passionate but if you attempt such an action the Council will be breaking out the champagne in celebration, you and whoever else contributes will give the Council that final excuse to completely vilify every Spalding resident who attempts to speak out at the problems, they do a pretty good job of it as it is so by handing them that final power we all really will be finished. No matter how good the intentions to start with, marches under these circumstances never work, all that happens is the police are forced to act when it's high-jacked by drunken mobs spurred on behind the scenes by certain groups and then more politically correct draconian by-laws introduced under the guise of being justified because of all the 'hate filled' people living here . Your best bet is to stay articulate and calm, you won't want to hear it but the pen is far mightier than the sword and aside from that it is your only option. It will be you who unwittingly destroys the Town if you continue with the idea of a march, don't lower yourself to such levels. There are many routes you can take that are reasoned, within the law and by the rules of the system, although it is heavily one sided as you have found out but you do still have rights, don't stop after one dead end reply. You're obviously frustrated because you care about the Town and it's future which is good, although others will label you as 'waysist', fascist, prejudice and many other words that they have no idea the meanings of but think they sound good as they almost always win them a debate, you'd be much better off showing the care you have for the Town and not falling into the trap of the stereotype. Not everyone who speaks out about the state of the Town and Council failings is a thug filled with hate who wants to see everyone deported and I'm sure you're not either but you'll do yourself no favours with this march. You can obtain the information you've asked for by staying rational and using freedom of information requests, then from there consider how best to use that information, you need to create an understanding of what is happening and why without being reactionary. Have you considered standing as a Councillor yourself maybe? Keep a record of your emails with the Council and consider a direction to take that you feel is going to be productive to get your point across. Also consider the bigger picture outside of Spalding as the events at the top are what forces the hand down here at local level, look into what's going on with the EU - it's migration of labour and the reasons why, then also consider our home Government, see the direction which they take as it's the same party who have control of our district. With the situation on the former Peacock Pub, I think that was more a case of lack of unity and organisation from those who opposed the plans, a complaint here and a complaint there will never change anything, you need to pull like minded people together in situations like that, but the reasons for the objections need to be presented fairly, coherently, and logically without frustration getting in the way.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 08:37 PMshame on our council leader who says it is not in the councils hands to give the go ahead or deal with these shops...his words, not mine !!!! time for our council leader to step down if he can't listen to the locals ! only way for him to take notice now is march...who's in ???? us local's keep taking this crap week in week out of drunks in town, illegal booze not doubt hidden in the shops. how on earth can english shops get a ticking off for signs in windows, signs on streets and they..the easterns get away with it all !!! questions need to be answered, and answered now. please free pressguardian...run and story on these letters...let the council leader see the disgust because on his e-mail to me through his rose tinted glasses nothing was wrong with our town. his words..not mine !!! so don't shy away from this free press, don't be afraid of the race card...we are all behind you. we need this disgust story run !!!!!! question 1...... who gives the go ahead to these shops opening ? 2.... does the public view and not wanting these shops not count ? 3.... why are these shops not searched weekly once suspicion arise's ? 4.... how come these shops can board up there fronts with stickers etc to block view when so many english ones have been stopped ? 5....there was strong pubic objection to the former peacock pub opening as one. yet why give that one the go ahead when we already have such a huge drink culture by the eastern europeans in our town ? 6.... what is the actual law on the drinking zones ? as nobody seems to get drinks taken from them and we continually see easterns walking around the cans in hand...well, staggering.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 07:19 PMinterestingly they did not find any drugs? i was always led to believe that they sold items a bit stronger than cigarettes to their ownthe regulars... ?? either that or the police forgot to take a little dog to have a sniff around and missed it. O well a different foreign male will have another premise licence approved by SHDC if it gets revoked... or they will move to another location down the road... there is plenty of vacant shops to chose from. So they may as well not have bothered searching it at all... same sh*t different day tomorrow.
