£1m drugs in lorries

More than £1million worth of drugs have been seized during a police operation in south Lincolnshire.

The large quantities of cannabis and heroin were found in the back of a lorry stoppedin a joint operation on Tuesday.

Three men, aged 47, 48 and 51, were arrested in connection with the incident and are were helping police with their inquiries yesterday.

The lorry was one of two stopped as part of an intelligence-led operation by Lincolnshire Police in partnership with SOCA, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, with support from Bedforshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Units.

The other lorry was stopped in Cambridgeshire.

The haul from both lorries totalled several hundred kilos of cannabis and a significant quantity of heroin.

Assistant Chief Constable Roger Bannister said: “We are committed to tackling serious and organised crime and the distribution of drugs here in Lincolnshire and across the East Midlands.

“This type of operation really shows the benefit of regional collaboration in terms of pooling resources and sharing intelligence.

“As a result a significant amount of class A and B drugs have been taken off the streets and will now be destroyed.

“As ever, we would urge anyone with any information on the production, distribution and dealing of drugs to call us.”
