WHEN Richard and Janice Kilbon decided to raise money to thank the Macmillan nurses who have helped them they hoped to raise as much as £1,000.
In fact the couple, who live with son Wayne (14) and daughter Libby (12) in Railway Lane, Sutton Bridge, managed to raise a magnificent £1,642.86 from a charity disco held at the Royal British Legion hall in the village.
“It was our first fundraising effort so we were pleased with that,” said Janice. “My husband has got lung cancer so we wanted to thank the nurses for what they have done. He’s had six lots of chemotherapy so we thought we would give something back.”
The couple sold 174 tickets and although illness kept some at home Janice says the room was packed. The money raised will go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King’s Lynn, to be divided between the chemotherapy suite and the lung cancer treatment area.
