Countdown to raft race under way

THERE are less than 100 days to The Deepings Raft Race on Sunday, August 5.

The Rotary Club of The Deepings is once again organising the event with all the profits being donated to local sports clubs, in keeping with their sporting theme in this Olympic year.

Raft race committee chairman Kevin Barber is appealing to sports clubs to get involved.

He said: “One of the aims of our club is to invest time and money in improving the lives of local people.

“So in this Olympic year we decided to donate all the profits from the raft race to local sports clubs.

“In order to benefit from the proceeds we are asking sports clubs to get involved in the race, either by entering a raft or with volunteers assisting us for a few hours on race day itself.

“If you want to get involved in this year’s event, visit our website at or look us up on Facebook.”

As well as the Olympic-themed rafts racing down the River Welland, there will be a fun fair and lots of stalls in Market Deeping town centre for an afternoon of family fun.

This year’s special feature is a flypast by a Dakota from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
