IMPROVEMENTS to Monkshouse Scout and Guide Headquarters will benefit hundreds of children who use the facility, according to South Holland councillor Angela Newton.

Coun Newton and Coun George Aley decided to jointly contribute £900 from their councillor budgets towards the cost of re-wiring the scout hut, which is in their council ward.

Coun Newton said: “I can remember it being built when I was first elected and it badly needed re-wiring.

It is a good local organisation to support because it is used four or five nights each week by scouts, brownies, cubs and Rainbows, so lots of youngsters get the benefit, and it’s not just children in Spalding because they come from outlying villages.

“We also paid for an outside light at the front and the leaders we met said that was a really fantastic extra because it meant people could drop off their children outside in the light.”
