A SOLICITOR took on the challenge of polishing off a 69oz steak with all the trimmings in an hour – and finished the gut-busting feast with just three seconds to spare.
The challenge was thrown down by Bootleggers, the steak house above China 88 in Sheepmarket, Spalding, with anyone unable to down the lot having to fork out £59.99.
Mike Alexander, a defence solicitor often seen at Spalding Magistrates’ Court, became the first person to complete the challenge on Thursday after being dared by a court colleague, and raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.
He said: “I am a sucker for proving people wrong – four years ago I did the Great North Run because someone said I was too fat to do it.
“I could have eaten more but my mouth was dry at the end – if I had thought about it I would have asked for gravy.
“If anyone can think of any other mad challenges I probably would do it.”
Bootleggers owner Harry Bharwani said: “He cleaned up with three seconds to spare – everyone was cheering him on.
“It shows it can be done.”
