A bunch of new faces turned up this week for the Couch 2 5k challenge, which is supported by the Spalding Guardian.
Led by Tracey Vowels, of the Fitness Company, many readers returned for week two keen to progress.
Tracey decided to repeat the week one running plan to allow newbies to settle in. Ninety seconds brisk walking was followed by 60 seconds of running, at a pace comfortable for the individual, for a total of 20 minutes.
The pace seemed a little quicker this week and there was obvious improvement. Several runners had managed to repeat the run/walk once more during the week, as advised, and were finding this week’s group run much more comfortable. During the 20-minute session, they covered about 2.2 miles, which amazed everyone because the time went so quickly.
Couch 2 5k is a great way to improve your health. Make a chart, stick it on the wall and tick off your running sessions as you do them. Tell everybody that you’re doing it, run for charity, run with a friend – neither of you will want to let the other down.
Sessions take place from 6pm to 6.40pm at Monks House Playing Field in Pennygate, Spalding. Week one registration fee is £5 then only £2 per week. Contact The Fitness Company on 01775 766775 for more information.
