Children at a Sutton Bridge nursery helped bring a ray of sunshine into the lives of dogs at a rescue centre by collecting 93 shoeboxes full of treats and toys.

Sunbeams Playgroup, based in Anne Road, collected the boxes in response to a Valentine’s appeal by Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Algarkirk called Love Us, Love Our Dogs.

The value of the goodies collected by the playgroup totalled almost £1,000.

Cookie, a female German Shepherd who was rehomed by the centre, went along to the playgroup with owner Claire Holstead, a kennel assistant at Jerry Green, to thank the children for their help.

Sunbeam youngsters are pictured with playgroup worker Julie Horspool and Cookie, who is wearing a collar made by the children.
