People who dump household and business waste in street bins across Bourne and the Deepings could face prosecution, according to South Kesteven District Council.

The number of people putting their rubbish in public bins is rising, with passers-by and visitors left with overflowing dustbins.

Coun John Smith, cabinet member for healthy environments, has asked people to report anyone putting private rubbish in street bins.

“Our waste and recycling teams are doubling litter bin collections in some locations to keep up with the amount of litter most residents and visitors responsibly deposit,” said Coun Smith.

“However, their efforts are thwarted if businesses and individuals don’t dispose of their waste responsibly.

“It is vital that public bins are not filled with private wasye and we are asking people to be that extra pair of eyes and ears by reporting anyone seen filling bins with their waste.”
