Plans to build 35 new homes and a shop in Cowbit will be on display for all to see at a public exhibition – before they are submitted to South Holland District Council.

Holbeach-based Ashley King Developments wants to build the estate on a parcel of land off Backgate but before the proposal goes to district council planners, the firm wants to know what residents think.

The company is holding a public exhibition at Cowbit Village Hall on Friday, January 24, where the developer and consultants will be talking about their ideas for the site.

People are invited to go along between 4pm and 8pm to look at the plans and put forward their ideas for consideration.

Company director Ashley King said: “We have put together a plan for the site at Backgate but it’s crucial that we get it right.

“We felt the best way of ensuring this was to hold a public exhibition where everyone can come along and have their say on the plans.

“We will take all views and ideas into consideration giving us a chance to make an informed decision about the final design of the plans before we submit them to the district council.”

Mr King said when the plans were drawn up there wasn’t a shop in the village but since then one has opened.

He added: “We have had several conversations with the parish council which tells us there is not the need for two shops in Cowbit.

“We are therefore looking at the best way to move forward with this.”

The site, which consists of 3.82 acres, backs on to the village playing field and plans include a new pedestrian and cycle link to the field from Backgate.

Houses on the site will be a mix of two-bed terraces, three-bed semis, three and four-bed detached and a flat above the shop. As required by the Government, 33 per cent of the houses will be affordable homes.

Anyone who is interested but unable to attend the exhibition can to obtain paper copies of the exhibition boards by calling Savills on 01223 347259 from Monday, January 27.
