Holbeach Round Table and Ladies Circle members are supporting one of their own who has a rare form of cancer.

The groups have teamed up in a determined fundraising effort for ex-Round Table member Allan Richardson of Holbeach who is being treated for sarcoma, a cancer affecting muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels.

So far, about £1,500 has been raised for the charity Sarcoma UK and Impact, a £150 million campaign by Nottingham University based on five themes such as health and well-being, ingenuity and sustainable futures.

Holbeach Round Table chairman Colin Parker said: “Allan raised quite a lot of money for Sarcoma UK so we’re giving something back for what he did as a Round Table member.

“It’s difficult to fundraise, especially in the current economic climate, but the amount raised so far shows that you can get people to dig a little bit deeper and think about charities.”

The cash has been raised through charity stalls at events, including the Spalding Flower Parade and Holbeach Town and Country Fayre.

Clare Johnson-Smith, chairman of Holbeach Ladies Circle, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic what we’ve raised so far but we’re hoping to raise a lot more.”
