Deepings Community Centre is competing against giants like Sainsbury’s and Mitsubishi for a top sustainability award after cutting its electricity bill by more than half.
Impressionist, comedian and environmentalist Alistair McGowan will announce the winner at the Sustainability Leaders Awards gala dinner in London on Wednesday.
The awards entry is jointly in the names of Deepings Community Trust, who manage the centre, and Market Deeping firm Hydrostat Ltd, which advised the trust during its energy efficiency refurbishment.
Efficiency measures included installation of LED lighting and photovoltaic solar panels and the creation of a glass-covered atrium, which was used for the first time a few days ago for a First World War exhibition.
Hydrostat managing director Ashley Baxter said: “We are delighted that the community centre project has been shortlisted for the sustainable building award. It underlines the valuable works the centre has undertaken for the benefit of the local community and the environment.”
