CHILDREN from Busy Bees Pre-School and Bourne Mayor, Coun Brenda Johnson, helped the town’s Anglia Co-operative foodstore celebrate its first birthday at the Burghley Centre site.

Youngsters presented a special birthday card they had made while the Busy Bees received a cheque for £150 – raised by the store in a six-week Pick Up A Penny campaign.

Store manager Gavin Price said: “We gave a penny for every till receipt collected and customers responded by handing over almost 15,000 receipts.”

Co-op staff and customers have raised hundreds of pounds for local causes in the past year.

The birthday celebrations continued with balloon-modelling and face-painting when the first 100 customers of the day were given celebration cakes.
