Around 85 youngsters aged from four to 11 years came together as Spalding Baptist Church threw open its doors for its Space Academy Holiday Club last week.
The busy youngsters kept their feet on the ground for fun activities such as making robots, dressing up to perform space-themed plays, singing and listening to stories. The club was led by Colin Draper, from Faith for Families, and there was a biblical link as children listened to stories such as that of Daniel from the Old Testament. Minister’s wife Doreen Walker said: “Daniel had to go to a foreign land so it was like space would be to us, it was quite alien.” Evening sessions were put on for older children too, including a murder mystery, and the church also welcomed some old friends. Mrs Walker said a lot of young people, who are at university now, returned to the church to help with the holiday club.
