It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas, especially when you need around £1,500 to bankroll an Over 60s party.

The Over 60s Committee, which stages a joint seasonal party for Saracen’s Head and Holbeach Bank, held a music night with entertainment from singer Phil Wigger.

Around 60 people attended the event at Saracen’s Head Village Hall and a grand total of £267 was raised.

June Taylor, who chairs the Over 60s Committee, said the people attending on the night were very generous, donating 35 prizes to the raffle, which on its own raised £160 towards the total.

Other events including bingo will be lined up through the year to achieve the target.

“It costs us about £1,500,” said June. “But every year we seem to do it by the time Christmas comes.”

She said guests very much enjoyed Phil’s singing.

“It was a really good night,” she said.

Members of the Over 60s Committee provided a wonderful buffet style meal for their guests.

“We had lots of compliments on the food,” said June.
