DONINGTON man Stefan Howells is the Academy of Culinary Arts Young Pastry Chef of the Year.
The academy’s award is the icing on the cake for the young chef aspiring to open his own restaurant one day.
Stefan (21) already works with renowned international chef Raymond Blanc and has been chosen to represent the UK in WorldSkills 2011, the world’s biggest competition for vocational skills, which takes place in London in October.
Proud Stefan collected his academy award at a dinner at Claridge’s – and his name was announced by another top chef, Heston Blumenthal.
Stefan learned to cook at Donington’s Thomas Cowley High School and studied NVQ catering at Boston College. He also worked as a chef at Donington’s Black Bull pub.
Stefan applied to do work experience at Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin-star restaurant, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, near Oxford, three years ago and he was kept on as a trainee.
