MORE than £3,000 has been collected by fundraisers in Cowbit who donned fancy dress and walked six miles in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group of 40, which included crayons, fairies and an array of green outfits, completed the route in memory of Maggie Loveridge, who died in April last year.

Daughter Debbie Morrison said the charity was one of her mum’s favourites.

She said: “It would have been mum’s 60th birthday on June 25 so we decided to honour her birthday by organising an event to help raise money for Macmillan, which is such a wonderful cause.”

The walkers were given a warm up by Charlie Williams from Endana dance school and then they walked along the bridal path.

They returned to Barrier Bank for a barbecue and fireworks at the home Maggie shared with her husband Steve.

Debbie, who organised the event with her sister Sharon Scholes, said they came up with the idea as an alternative to Race For Life so male members of the family could join in too.
