CHAPPY the pigeon had love on his mind when he flew to Pinchbeck from Scotland and won a national championship.
The two-year-old cock bird was released in Perth at 7am last Saturday and was back home with his mate by lunchtime.
Owner John Bellerby (65) is thrilled with his win in the North Road Championship Club race.
John, of Penway Drive, is a member of Spalding Homing Society. He said: “Chappy was entered as a widower pigeon, which means we separate him from his mate for a week, show him her the night before the race and then he hurries back.”
His grandson, Charlie Bowman (13), is already a fan of the sport. John said: “When I was his age we were always asking for eggs. We’d like to encourage more members.”
