OUTGOING council chairman Stamford Marthews checked out on his last day in office with a £1,200 pay day for three local charities.

Chairmen of South Holland District Council traditionally collect for good causes.

And Coun Marthews made it a day to remember for the NSPCC and the Rotary Club of Holbeach Trust Fund, by giving them £442.78 each, and making a £392.78 donation to Help for Heroes.

Coun Marthews, who had represented Gedney, lost his seat at the elections earlier this month.
