Celebrity archaeologist unearths modern day treasures

The importance of archaeological discoveries from the Second World War were outlined in a talk by Dr Francis Pryor at Long Sutton Church Hall.

Thirty years after uncovering Peterborough Bronze Age site at Flag Fen, archaeologist. TV personality and novelist Dr Pryor stressed the importance of modern history and how finds could so easily be overlooked.

More than 80 people packed the hall to listen to the talk. Father Jonathon Sibley said Dr Prior was well-received and helped to boost the church roof and tower repair fund. He said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity and Dr Pryor for his fascinating talk.

“It was interesting to hear that this is one of the best areas for wartime pillboxes that are still visible in fields around the district.”
