PUPILS past and present have been taking a walk down memory lane as part of celebrations for a village primary school building’s 40th anniversary.

Old class photos, registers and logbooks from days gone by were among the items on display at Sutton St James Primary School.

Pupils each received a memory book, containing photographs of classes and individual pupils, and stories of what they like the most about Sutton St James.

Their lessons have also been delving into the past to look at world history over the past 40 years.

Former pupil and teacher Anne Merrison was given the honour of cutting a cake to mark the anniversary.

School governor Paula Van Dyke said: “It went down very well.

“We had personal invitations go out to as many people as we could track down.

“We had quite a few people who had not been to the school for 30 years come back to have a look.”

The memorabilia displays remained in place for the school’s summer fair, which raised about £1,600.
