RUMOURS that Holbeach Parish Council wants to remove the town’s CCTV system have been quashed.
At their meeting, Coun Esmond Tearle, who is looking into ways of improving the system, said he had heard that Holbeach Business Forum thought that the system might be taken away.
He said: “We are not trying to do away with CCTV, we are looking at ways of improving it.
”I feel that we need to decide what is best for Holbeach sooner rather than later and don’t want to drag on too long before we can decide which way to goe.
“I have heard rumours that ways are being looked at to improve the whole system, but until that happens it’s costing Holbeach money for something that is possibly of no real benefit.
He had received a copy of a South Holland District Council report and said he and the CCTV sub-committee would be considering it and he would report back at the July meeting.
Holbeach’s five cameras are monitored by volunteers from a centre at Spalding Police Station.
