A regular column with details of forthcoming events at South Holland Centre in Spalding.

With the sun still shining, we’re guessing not many people will be thinking too far beyond the summer, but over the last few weeks, some of us at South Holland Centre have been doing just that!

Having finalised the programme for the darker months, we are expecting our shiny new autumn live guides to arrive on doormats this week!

The season is jam-packed with the usual mix of high quality events – and with a mission to keep spirits high we’ve booked some premier league comedians to tickle your funny bones.

Having played at the centre to a full house in 2014, Omid Djalili returns for two nights this December as part of his latest tour ‘Schmuck for a Night’.

Making an appearance in September is the cheeky ‘middle-class and middle-aged’ Hal Cruttenden. He has been all over the box recently with regular slots on The One Show, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, and admired so much he was personally chosen to appear on The John Bishop Show.

Meanwhile, Kettering lad made-good James Acaster, whose dry wit and straight-faced delivery has seen him nominated a record four times for the Edinburgh Comedy Award, will be in Spalding this November with a date on his massive national tour.

For younger people there’s a host of fun this autumn: from under 7s discos, a children’s show called Sponge, where under 5s soak up all things spongy, and of course there’s the grand finale to the year with our fabulously colourful family pantomime Beauty and the Beast which runs for three weeks in December.

Music comes from East End jewel Joe Brown who will be singing many a song and sharing stories from his past, while our folk, roots ‘n’ Americana programme is bursting with the best anyone can offer including: Bellowhead’s frontman Jon Boden, festival favourites The Demon Barbers XL, and award-winning Pennsylvanian trio The Stray Birds.

These events are just a taster of what is on offer at South Holland Centre this autumn so we are advising readers to take a look at our website to discover more.

Meanwhile, we are slap-bang in the middle of our busy summer film season with screenings of Absolutely Fabulous, The BFG, The Legend of Tarzan, Finding Dory, Ghostbusters and many more still to come.
