Residents have once again rallied to help people in need from the South Holland community by donating hundreds of items to the Agape Care Foodbank in Spalding.

Festive food, including Christmas puddings, brandy sauce and selection boxes, have poured in to the Foodbank, based at The Lighthouse Church in Haverfield Road, as people generously support this year’s Christmas Appeal.

Just two weeks after the Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press teamed up with the Foodbank to launch the appeal, your response has been truly staggering.

Readers have also donated soft toys, Christmas crackers and crayons for parcels to be delivered to hundreds of desperate people in time for Christmas.

Foodbank volunteers were joined by pupils from Ayscoughfee Hall School in Spalding on Tuesday to help pack food parcels for delivery to homes on December 23.

Headteacher Clare Ogden said: “It was a good opportunity for them to be involved in the community and to understand that there are people who are less fortunate than themselves.”

Donations are welcome until December 18 at foodbank centres in Spalding and The Market House, Market Street, Long Sutton, the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian offices in The Crescent, Spalding or collection points at Sainsbury’s, Holland Market, Spalding and Morrison’s, Wardentree Lane, Pinchbeck.
