This week we welcomed local MP John Hayes back to our studios for a lengthy chat on a variety of interesting topics.
MP for South Holland and The Deepings and a member of the socially conservative Cornerstone Group, he was elected to the House of Commons at the 1997 general election with a majority of 7,991.
He has been elected with increased majorities at successive elections since.
He’s currently Minister of State for the Cabinet Office and Senior Parliamentary Advisor to Prime Minister David Cameron.
John has recently been in the local news for backing a fight by Cowbit residents to save their local pub from being bulldozed to make way for new homes.
He has also joined forces with some pensioners from Cedar Court, Spalding to save the wardens who look after South Holland’s sheltered housing residents. The warden service is due to be scrapped at the end of October and residents have been told they may be replaced by some kind of electronic/telephone alert system, which nobody wants.
We also heard John’s views on working closely with the Prime Minister as well as his take on national and international events. It’s recently been reported he might be a contender for the role of Tory Chief Whip in the wake of the government’s defeat in the Syria vote. You can hear his answer to that question by visiting website www.tulip-radio.co.uk and clicking on the podcast section.
