SPALDING’S air cadets have been treated to an up-close encounter with the Royal Air Force’s elite Red Arrows team.

The 21 cadets from the 1406 Squadron made the journey to RAF Scampton for a talk on the history of how the “Reds” were formed.

They also enjoyed a guided tour around the hangar and viewed the cockpit of one of the Hawk jets.

Civilian instructor Jon Hilton said: “They watched the Reds take off and rehearse some of their moves for the new display season, when they had landed they met with the pilots and had photos taken with them.

“Apart from wanting to see the Reds and getting to meet the pilots, the cadets gained insight into some of the subjects they study for their ATC cadet qualifications.”
