TALKS are under way with the staff at Premier Foods in Long Sutton whose jobs are at risk.

Premier’s canning operation at Long Sutton is expected to be sold to Princes in a £182million deal which will see the 600-strong workforce transfer to the new firm.

However, the deal does not include administration staff who work for Premier Foods, which is 153 employees in Long Sutton and Wisbech.

Talks have now begun with these members of staff and the Spalding Guardian understands this does include the option of transferring to other locations, including Rugby in the West Midlands, for those affected.

A spokesman said: “Formal discussions with those employees has only just got under way.

“They are discussing options as well as locations within the current portfolio of sites.”

The spokesman said it was too early to say when these negotiations will be complete and the deal with Princes has not been officially completed yet.

Premier will use the cash from the sale to pay off debts.
