SAINSBURY’S in Spalding will shut for seven days while builders continue work on its expansion.
The refurbishment of the Holland Market store has been going on for some weeks but it will be closed from October 19 to October 25 inclusive due to work on an extension.
Sainsbury’s spokesman Tom Parker said: “This will increase the range of non-food products like clothing, electricals and homeware available at the store.
“It will also improve the range of food counters including a pizza counter.”
Other improvements to the store will include new customer toilets, a new restaurant and an in-store bakery.
There will also be a new domestic area for staff.
One of the store’s customers is fed-up because she’s been given a voucher that can only be used for two days before the temporary closure.
Spalding resident Connie Cronin said: “I have received a letter from Sainsbury’s, probably as many others have, stating that their store in Spalding will need to close from 6pm on October 18 until 9am on October 26.
“To thank their Nectar card holders they have enclosed two vouchers for money off when spending in the Spalding store – one for the period up to October 16 and the second for the period October 17-23.
“I wonder whose intelligence was lacking when sending out coupons for when the store is closed?”
Mr Parker said: “When we close one of our stores for a refit we often issue coupons to local customers to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
“In this case both of these coupons are not only valid at Sainsbury’s Spalding but also at our nearby stores at Bourne, Peterborough and Bretton.”
