Checkout tills and an exercise bike are going hand-in-hand for staff at Wilkinson in Spalding to help Cancer Research UK.

Staff at the Holland Market store hope to raise £3,000 by April with an in-store bike ride of 838 miles, the journey by road between John O’Groats and Lands End.

The cross-country “journey” started in April, with the help of an exercise bike, and almost £1,700 has been raised so far through donations from staff and customers.

Staff are also planning a Halloween fancy dress day on Saturday to get them nearer their £3,000 target.

Lloyd Nicholls, store manager, said: “Each Wilkinson store within the business has chosen a charity they want to support for the year and our staff voted to raise money for Cancer Research UK because it’s a charity close to everyone’s hearts.

“Most people know someone who has been affected by cancer and so for the last few months, we’ve been doing an in-store bike ride from John O’Groats to Lands End on the last Friday and Saturday of every month.

“We’ve broken it down into a route we can cover over the year and so far, we’ve covered about 540 miles.

“Some staff have been coming in during their time off to do the miles and the public have been throwing money into buckets inside the store.”
